On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared the coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic. And in a week, we’d be, officially, two years into a global health concern that has redefined the future of work.

Within the period, the world has seen a sharp increase in technological integration across all walks of life. Work-from-home and remote policies took the centre stage due to social distancing protocols. And this elevated the demand for tech professionals. Thus, the tech sector has witnessed tremendous growth over the last 23 months.

Consequently, the role of IT professionals is increasingly becoming more important. And this has drastically altered the job outlook for the near future.

In February, recruitment giant Glassdoor released its US career outlook for the year 2022. And unsurprisingly, 8 of the best 10 jobs are from the tech industry. This gives an insight into the surge in demand for tech jobs and sets the tone for what to expect for the rest of the decade.

Adjusted for flexibility, active openings, and lucrativeness, here are the 5 highest-paying jobs for 2022, according to Glassdoor:

1. Enterprise Architect

Enterprise architects are responsible for the support and maintenance of an organization’s IT networks and services. The average annual salary of an enterprise architect in the US is approximately $145,000, with about 14,000 job openings available.

2. Full Stack Engineer

A full-stack engineer (also a full-stack developer) is skilled in both frontend and backend software development. That is, he can handle all of the databases, servers, systems engineering, and client-side development. The average annual salary of a full-stack engineer is $101,794 with about 11,000 job openings.

3. Data Scientist

A Data scientist develops processes for modeling data, analyzes them, and helps organizations reach informed decisions. In Nigeria, data scientists earn about N240,000 at entry-level. And in the US, they earn $120,000 on average with over 10,000 job openings.

4. Dev Ops Engineer

DevOps engineers have a wide knowledge of both development and operations. They oversee processes, tools, and methodologies to balance needs throughout the software development cycle. They can expect to earn about $120,000 yearly and the sector has about 8,500 openings.

5. Strategy Manager

Strategy managers are the key planners, analyzers, and risk leaders who establish strategic plans in a business. They review organizations and determine their strengths, weaknesses, operational effectiveness, opportunities, and threats. The average annual salary of a strategy manager is $140,000 with approximately 7,000 job openings available.

Summary

To cap, the coronavirus pandemic has altered the projected job outlook for the decade ending 2030. Traditional roles have been replaced with smart technological solutions, and the demand for IT professionals has increased.

This development has pushed more tech jobs into the top cadre, with role flexibility giving the sector an edge as the career for the future.
